First Flickr Meet

Finally got to attend my first Flickr meet last weekend where a group of avid photographers got to meet for the first time. They where all member of the Cleveland Camera Club flickr group and we all met at Saltburn By The Sea and it's stunning pier.

All these shots where taken with a Nikon D300 with a Nikon 17-55mm f/2.8 DX lense with a B&W 0.9 Density Filter various shutter times where used below are some of the days highlights.

The shot below was taken when still light so the density filter came in handy here to capture the water movement.

1 hour later and the light was dropping fast.

This shot was taken outside the Ship pub at the base of Saltburn Bank.

And finally it was so cold we all went in the Ship for a pint or two near the log fire.

It was an enjoyable day and nice to meet other members of the flickr group many thanks to you all for making me feel welcome. If you would like to see more of my shots from this meet then Click Here

Here are some of the highlights.

Middlehaven College Developement

As part of an earlier shoot over at the Infinity site I also paid a visit to the Middlehaven Developement based alongside the Riverside Football Stadium in Middlesbrough. I wanted to take some updated shots of the new College being built on this site as I have been documenting this since the building was first being built and the rest of the Middlehaven developement as it grows.

Below are a couple of the shoots highlights.

Infinity Blues

Been out having a little bit of fun late yesterday evening doing a shoot around the new Infinity Bridge that is being built near Stockton on Tees.

This is such a beautiful additional to the local area and a stunning sculpture in it's own right take a look at the pictures below to see what I mean.

I decided to take a break and shoot other landmarks that are part of this site including the new Wolfson Research Institute below.

This next image was taken at moonlight.

Got to admit this is a real stunner.

A Legend Leaves Us

The photography neighbourhood will never be the same with the sad loss of Creighton Carvello on Monday 18th November 2008. He had been fighting the damage caused from a severe heart attack earlier this year and never really recovered.

Creighton will always be remembered for his genuine and caring approach to both life and his many customers over the 15 years as a wedding photographer. He was my inspiration and biggest supporter when I too turned professional as a photographer and his support and advice will always be remembered.

Creighton was also well know for his memory feats and he still holds multiple world records with the Guinness Book Of Records. Some of which are mentioned below.

FA Cup Finals
Creighton could recollect every score, player, goalscorer, referee since the competition started in 1872.

Derby and Grand National Winners
Creighton could also name every horse, jockey and starting price since 1900.

Telephone numbers
He also new the telephone number of every "Smith" in Middlesbrough, whose name appears in the Middlesbrough 'phone book.

Words in a book
I have memorised over the first 3,000 words from the Ernest Hemingway novel "The Old Man and the Sea" and each word's numerical position. For example you might ask me the 6th word on Line 15 on Page 8 and I can name it. I once knew over 10,000 words from this book, but I think over 3,000 is enough!!

Creighton got his first break many years ago back in 1997 on the BBC show Record Breakers with Roy Castle by memorizing 18 random digits in 4 seconds and recited with no errors.

Creighton many thanks for all your help, support and grand fatherly advice your will be sorely missed my old friend.

New 2009 Website In Development

Digital Dennis website is currently being re-designed for a new design and look with simpler cleaner ease of use interface. This will also combine and bring together new company branding and style to take Digital Dennis forward for 2009.

The new design will allow me to show of my work the new site will also allow me for the first time to bring together my other work including commercial, post production and chroma screen work.

This will be done by using a new state of the art gallery section which I have been working away on coding over the last couple of months to both look original and be very efficient allowing me to show high resolution work examples on the fly with no load time. This is so important with web design as customers who use the Internet are very impatient and like information to be available at the press of a button.

The new design is finished along with the graphical design just the website content to be finished along with the images to go in the new galleries still some candle burning to be done.

The new design will also allow tighter integration with this blog page and breaking news when it happens.

Nikon D200's Big Brother The Nikon D300

Breaking news further investment has now been made with the addition Nikon D300 to the family. Investment was made after extensive testing of the new Nikon D300 especially the ISO performance allowing use in very low light situations with out the need for on camera flash.

Also the image quality is class leading with detail levels even better than the older Nikon D200 which is already part of the family. Also the addition of the MB-D10 hand grip allows 8 frames per second capture so no special moments are missed.

I use Nikon because they are the best they provide me with tools to capture the very finest in image quality alongside rugged and reliable hardware than can be used in any conditions. This allows me to be both creative and original with my work giving my clients and customers nothing but the very best which is some thing my clients and customers have come to expect from my work.
